Shabazz Palaces - “Endeavors for Never (The Last Time We Spoke You Were Not Here. I Saw You Though)”
This comes from probably the year’s most critically acclaimed hip-hop album. Strangely though, my favorite pic of the disk is not that hip-hop. It’s a joint collaboration of Shabazz Palaces with THEESatisfaction, having the duo’s Cat Satisfaction on vocals. The spine-chilling jazz and the uncanny terror that extinguishes any sense of mercy within you. It’s probably not long enough to settle down on your nerve. Because in fact, it’s an amalgam of many contrasts. Futuristic lyrics, electronic chemistry lab samples and the soulful yet frightening voice. It’s like a contest between a jazz quartet and a trip-hop sampler that goes berserk, but to the audience, the puzzle falls magnificently into place. This is indeed a fantastic song.
p.s. Thanks to @nosaidjoe for reminding me to give the album a second play. Also seeing it topping Gorilla vs. Bear’s list this year was quite a motivation.
