The Sea and the Cake - “Inn Keeping”

Derailed and biased by mere song duration or the similarity of the locomotive drum sequence and how opaque and not disturbing it sounds or even the occasional vibe of the slide on the guitar or whatever else you want to call it, this song reminds me so much of Wilco’s “Spiders (Kidsmoke)”. But this Sea and the Cake version of slow burning sense of floating in the rhythm has a more non-deterministic structure. There’s a flow of so many things that open up their cores deliberately and wisely. Wilco conveyed a restlessness, a harsh guitar that threatened you at every tick of second, an imminent altering to the sullen. It served you the best when you needed a thrill. “Inn Keeping” remains loyal to its serenity and this makes it a refreshingly breezy indie-rock opus free of surprises and blessed with pristine spaces we all sometimes need in our musical daily doses.
